Trees and Zoo Phonics Party

Get ready for some real fun in our dramatic play area:  we are creating a forest. My special helpers have hand-painted two trees.

They have already tested out the fun that you can have inside of them. We need material scraps, preferably 2 inches wide or a little more and a couple of feet long, to help our "birds" make nests. We could also use some type of packing materials, butcher paper, to act as "straw". We will be making bird masks but if you have any animal ears (think squirrels and such) lying around to help our play the children would greatly appreciate it.

We are studying birds with a focus on the woodpecker, that one of our students brought to our attention. Last week the children heard a myth about how the woodpecker came to be and the moral of the story was that we should not be selfish. We will continue our study of birds with some Angry Bird Math activities. It should be loads of fun!

Next week, Wed. October 30th and Thurs. October 31st, are the dates for our Zoo Phonics Party. This is bound to be a fun occasion. Please focus on the letter more than an elaborate costume. For my costume I will cut a lower-case letter out of felt and attach it to my black shirt. I'm going to wear a hat with eyeballs and a beak. Done! Peewee Penguin. We have a sign-up sheet in our classroom to try to get a variety of characters. The day will be filled with fun Zoo Phonics games. The food portion will begin around 10:30 and you are all welcome to be part of our fun, food, and games.
